Apple Airport Express

The Apple Airport Express was the first attempt from Apple to penetrate this new market

Although this lacks many of the functions of the other, often cheaper, alternatives (such as a screen or remote) , it is still a good product

It works directly with itunes to play whatever is playing currently, and as such, is controlled only by itunes

The additional features are that it can also work as a wireless point, so no network is required and is also the only player currently able to play music purchased from the itunes music store directly

Overall, for Apple users, who want something simple to hide out of the way and simply plug into the stereo, this is a decent choice , but there are better options for the price.

Easy to set up and if you have an ipod touch or iphone then that can become the remote control for it (with a free app). One of my top 10 buys in the last 5 years. Works like a charm and with the remote is stunning, must be ok as my wife rates it as well

First I bought 1 airport express station but I find out that this is a great station because it does not only plays iTunes tracks wireless but is also a wireless router. Now I have 3 airport express station in my house. The other two expands the range of the basestation and I have also audio systems behind them so I can choose where to play the song in my house. Also I have an external hard drive attached to 1 of the airport express stations to have an network attached storage. And have 2 printers (inkjet color and a monochome laser). So for home use you dont need a server anymore for these functions. I think its the best product of his kind.

p.s. sorry for missing quotes but the mysql server behind this page doesnt alllow me

This review isn't correct. There's an infrared remote control sold by Keyspan that plugs into the AirPort Express's USB port that allows you to control iTunes or other programs (such as WinAMP).

The AirPort express also works well with several other media players on the PC, such as WinAMP and MediaMonkey, thanks to freely available output plugins. This allows you to play FLAC, OGG or any other format supported by your computer.

I also found the setup to be dead simple - the easiest I've ever experienced with wireless gear. And the Express has been highly reliable. Best of all, if a better solution does come along, I could always reuse the AirPort as a portable wireless base station or wireless print server.
