Sandberg Wireless Multimedia Link

Thanks to Kathryn Lamb at KL Associates for supplying a review unit.

The second review of a non-wifi streamer, the Sandberg Wireless Multimedia Link is primarily designed as a video streamer to send video content from a PC/TV/DVD/Freeview to another TV in a different room.

These devices have been around for a while now, but at £25 with a 5 year warranty, I felt it was time I reviewed one.

The Sandberg is a typical device in this market, a transmitter and a receiver unit with composite video connections on the back. In the box are all manner of cables so this isn’t a problem, there are scart adaptors, composite to S-Video cables and an infra-red extender should you want to place either in a cupboard.

The power supplies had a European 2-pin plug on them which was a shame because once the adaptor is added, it is a little bit cramped if plugged into a 4-way unit.

Setting it all up is as easy as could be expected, plug the cables in and turn the units on, they automatically sort everything out.

In use, I found they could suffer from interference, probably because I had placed quite close to the wireless networking equipment and quite a lot of computers. Once the interference was cleared though, they worked extremely well with a nice clean picture and no drop-outs.

In my opinion, most of these devices are pretty similar, therefore to find one for £25 with this many cables and a 5 year warranty should make it a definite contender if you are looking for a transmitter system such as this.

The boxes themselves are very small and can easily be hidden, especially if using the IR transmitter to extend the remote receiver outside the cupboard.

Another use to consider would be audio-only which would also cancel out any problems with interference. The unit could be plugged into a CD player in one room and transmit it to another room in the house, using the remote to control the player.

For the price, this is an excellent system, either for its intended use of video transmitting, or even for audio-only use.
