Slimdevices Transporter

The Slimdevices Transporter is the first of its kind, a wireless player aimed at the high-end AudioPhile market

Based on the successful Squeezebox 3, this is an ultra-high quality player, with high-end components inside

Unlike all other players, it has also been designed to sit next to other hifi equipment without looking out of place

The second screen enables the browsing of music whilst the visualizations are displaying

The inclusion of controls on the machine itself is a welcome inclusion, to save having to find the remote to put some music on

Although only just in shipping, this has the potential to take the market by storm, the Squeezebox 3 is an excellent product to base it on and there are high hopes for the sound quality

  RatingNotes
Price 4star.gif Depends on sound quality when released
Sound Quality 5star.gif Should be good
Ease of Use 5star.gif Rating based on SB3, should be easier to use with added screen and controls
Compatibility 3.5star.gif Requires the slimserver software on a PC/NAS which does restrict options very slightly. No UPnP support. The inclusion of Pandora is a big plus point.
Looks 4star.gif Based on the pictures released, it looks good, might not be for all though.
Audio Formats 4.5star.gif Supports WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3, WMA, AAC Loses out only on lack of support for itunes purchased music. Also Squeezenetwork internet radio and BBC internet radio stations (via a plugin) Same as SB3
Reliability 5star.gif Should be similar to the Squeezebox, but time will tell
Networking Support 5star.gif
  • 802.11b and 802.11g
  • WEP 128-bit and WPA
  • Ethernet Port
Overall 5star.gif This player has potential to be excellent, providing it lives up to it. Slimserver could be easier to use though. For those after the ultimate sound quality with the freedom of a wireless player, this could be it
